About Band Together

Band Together started as a collaborative effort of Overton County, Tennessee-based singer-songwriter Banger (ex-Satire, Kill the Radio, and Purgatory Noise) and Fentress County, Tennessee-based singer-songwriter Doug Garrett (currently You Were a Weapon, ex-The Sense, Diesel and Dust, and City of Traitors).

In starting the Band Together project, Doug and Banger have three goals. In order of importance, they are:

1. Raise a boatload of money for the music education program in Overton County, Tennessee schools — because in this era of test score-driven decision-making, the arts and especially school band programs are all-too-often overlooked when it comes to funding.

2. Get exposure for a local visual artist (or maybe two) who will donate their talents to produce art for the project.

3. Release a vinyl LP — something both Doug and Banger have wanted to do for a long time, but never had an excuse to do it (or a band willing to fund it, coincidentally).

So here we are. Band Together seeks to bring you something the artists hope you will enjoy — both audio and visual — all in the name of supporting Overton County children who want to learn to play music. The artists get to fulfill their dream of releasing new art and music into the community, project supporters get the music, and we all get the satisfaction of helping Overton County’s youth have a creative outlet that can stick with them for a lifetime.
